A standing-room crowd sought the Summit 3 Speckle Park Sale’s best and biggest offering to date on April 2, 2017, at Codiak Acres near Ardrossan, Alta. Cattle and genetics sold into five Canadian provinces, Australia, England, and New Zealand.

The sale saw bidders from seven countries competing for genetics from Codiak Acres of Ardrossan, Alta.; River Hill Farm from Neilburg, Sask., and Colgan’s Cattle Company Corp., Lashburn, Sask.

A heifer topped the sale this year at $20,000, selling on DLMS.ca to Below Sea Level, John & Jan Bellamy, of Ruawai, New Zealand. She was Lot 68, River Hill 60A Deva-Jade 59D, a Codiak Oh My Gosh GNK 60A daughter out of the famed River Hill 25Y Alexia-Jade 59A.

The high-selling extra-age bull was Lot 12, Codiak Captaine 5C, a son of Codiak Putnam GNK 61Y, purchased by River Hill Farm, Neilburg, Sask., for $18,000.

River Hill Debate-A-Bull 225D, Lot 26, was the high-selling yearling bull. This first son to sell of Second Chance Bazinga 2B was selected by the partnership of Pura Vida Acres, Saskatoon, Sask., and Second Chance Speckle Park, Fairlight, Sask., at a valuation of $10,500 for half interest and half possession.

First-release, exclusive semen packages on Upto Specs Ulysses 25U and Second Chance Bazinga 2B were hotly contested, commanding $550/straw for Ulysses and $437.50/straw for Bazinga.

The high-selling embryos were the mating of River Hill 25Y Alexia-Jade 59A, dam of the top-selling heifer, to Star Bank Lacerta 68L. The lot was purchased by Wes Hein, Lanigan, Sask., for $1,800/embryo.

The sale grossed $436,575 on 66.5 lots of live cattle and genetics. The breakdown was as follows:

25.5 yearling bulls averaged $5,323.53
11 open heifers averaged $11,068.18
2 lots of semen averaged $505.00/straw

It was a tremendous day for Canadian-developed Speckle Park cattle as a new record was set for the world’s highest-selling bull in the breed. River Hill 50T Crusader 025C, a son of River Hill Touchdown 50T, achieved a valuation of $60,000 for 50% interest and 100% possession to the Crusader Syndicate.

The sale saw bidders from across Canada and around the world competing for genetics from Codiak Acres of Ardrossan, Alta.; River Hill Farm from Neilburg, Sask. and Colgan’s Cattle Company Corp., Lashburn, Sask.

Benlock Farms of Grandora, Saskatchewan, purchased the top two high-selling extra age bulls: Codiak/Clark Bret’s Boy 18B, a River Hill Yager son, for $14,500, and Codiak Be My Guest 59B, a River Hill Traffic Jam son, for $13,000.

The high-selling heifer was selected by Sunrise Ranch, Westlock, Alta. She was River Hill 21A Cream Soda 34C, a daughter of P.A.R. ACDC 21A.

River Hill 60W Corporal 14C was the second highest-selling bull at $18,000 for 50% possession and interest to Burnell and Laurel Martin of Oyen, Alta.

The day’s volume buyer was Fred Courtney of Delia, Alta.

The sale grossed $470,000 on 53.25 lots of live cattle. The breakdown was as follows:

19 – extra-age bulls averaged $8,105.26
25.25 – yearling bulls averaged $9,069.31
9 – open heifers averaged $9,666.67

The event underwent a number of changes – moving to Codiak Acres’ farm on a new date, and switching to a video sale format – but snow and mud couldn’t damper the enthusiasm of the crowd at Ardrossan, Alberta.

The sale saw bidders from across Canada and around the world competing for genetics from Codiak Acres of Ardrossan, Alta.; River Hill Farm from Neilburg, Sask. and Wattle Grove Speckle Park, Australia. More than 350 commercial cattle producers, Speckle Park enthusiasts, and purebred breeders appraised the cattle on-site and online.

The high-selling bull was purchased by the “Oh My Gosh” syndicate for $30,000; He was Codiak Oh My Gosh GNK 60A, a stout, high-performance bull from one of Codiak’s premier cow families. The yearling bulls sold steadily, and were topped by River Hill Backgrounder 025B, who sold to P.A.R. Ranch of Lashburn, Sask. Heifers were hotly contested again this year, with the high-selling heifer being River Hill Beyonce 57B, sold to 4G Cattle Co., at a value of $15,000. Frozen genetics sold into Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario.

Several buyers purchased in volume: Steve Butler, Burnell & Laurel Martin, and Sunrise Ranch.

The sale grossed $390,875 on 51 lots of live cattle and genetics. The breakdown was as follows:

The 4th annual Summit 3 Speckle Park Sale took place in conjunction with Northlands’ Farm and Ranch Show in Edmonton, Alta., on March 29, 2014. The sale saw bidders from across the country and around the world competing for some of the best genetics available in the breed from Codiak Acres of Ardrossan, Alta.; River Hill Farm from Neilburg, Sask. and Clark Haven Farm, Ardrossan, Alta. Commercial cattle producers, Speckle Park enthusiasts, and several established purebred breeders appraised the cattle on-site and online to an average of $7,425 on the live lots.

The high-selling bull was purchased by Minnamurra Station and Six Star Speckle Park in Australia for $20,000. He was Codiak So Long George GNK 6Z, a long-bodied extra-age bull from one of Codiak’s premier cow families. The yearling bulls sold very consistently, and were topped by River Hill 12X A-Man 94A, who sold to the partnership of D.A.M. Dots and C Speckles of Unity, Sask.

The breed’s newest record-setting female is Codiak Annie GNK 7A, sold to Nova Creek Farm of Barrhead, Alta., at a value of $17,750. The second highest-selling heifer was hotly contested as well, and ended up under the new ownership of Wrangler Farms, Westlock, Alta., for $16,000.

Both embryo lots went to the United States, to repeat buyer Ron Carty from New Jersey, and to Monte Vander Vorst of North Dakota.

The sale grossed $230,850 on 32 lots of live cattle and genetics. The breakdown was as follows:

It was standing-room only with more than 500 spectators in attendance, along with 150 online viewers, to take in the 3rd annual Summit 3 Sale at Northlands’ Farm and Ranch Show in Edmonton, Alta., on April 6, 2013.

Breeders Codiak Acres from Ardrossan, Alta., and River Hill Farm of Neilburg, Sask., offered a tremendous set of cattle and genetics for bidders from across Canada, the United States, Australia, and New Zealand.

The high-selling bull was purchased by Johner Stock Farms of Maidstone, Sask. for $10,250. He was Codiak Calvin 58Y, a stout 2-year-old bull who was very popular in the sale preview. River Hill’s yearling bulls sold very consistently, and were topped by Rough-Rider 105Z who sold to McKillop Farms from Ontario. The high-selling heifer came close to the record set in 2011; Codiak Zana 3Z sold for $17,000 to Clark Haven Farm of Ardrossan, Alta. A shared flush on River Hill’s many-time champion female Cinder 5X sold to new breeder Wrangler Farms for $4,400. Wrangler Farms was also the volume buyer, taking home five lots of genetics and live cattle to start their Speckle Park program.

The sale grossed $195,450 on 38 lots of live cattle and genetics. The breakdown was as follows:

The high selling bull was River Hill Yager 99Y (Lot 12) at $12,000, purchased by fellow consignor Codiak Acres of Ardrossan, Alberta. Semen from River Hill Walker, Notta Frontline and River Hill Traffic Jam commanded a strong price of $150/straw. Andy Clark offered a flush on Codiak Ollie, the high-selling lot from the 2011 sale, which was purchased by River Hill Farm for $6,250. Several buyers supported the sale in volume: Sunrise Ranch (Westlock, AB), Wattle Grove Cattle (Australia) and Clarence & Cindy Beeching (Coronation, AB).

The sale grossed $193,375 on 35 lots to average $5,525. The breakdown was as follows:
